Masters Path Karate teaches traditional Tang Soo Do in Calgary, Alberta. Our family-owned academy has provided structured martial arts training for children, teens, adults and families since 2022.
Led by founder and Headmaster Mark Weatherburn, our classes combine traditional technique, practical self-defence, physical fitness and character development. Every student follows a clear path of progress in a positive environment built around one purpose: your success.
What Is Tang Soo Do?
Tang Soo Do is a traditional South Korean martial art often described as Korean karate. Its training brings together powerful kicking techniques, precise hand movements, traditional forms, practical self-defence and disciplined personal development.
The name Tang Soo Do can be translated as “the way of the China hand,” reflecting the Korean, Chinese and Okinawan influences found within the art. Modern Tang Soo Do preserves the traditions of Korean martial arts while providing a complete system of physical and mental training.

Training at Masters Path Karate develops the complete martial artist. Students build strong fundamentals before progressing to increasingly advanced techniques and combinations.
Our curriculum includes:
Fundamental Techniques
Students develop effective stances, blocks, punches, strikes and kicks while learning proper posture, balance, breathing and movement.
Traditional Forms
Hyung are structured sequences that preserve the techniques, principles and history of Tang Soo Do. Our curriculum includes the Kee Cho, Pyung Ahn, Bassai, Sip Soo and Naihanchi forms as students advance through the ranks.
Forms training develops precision, coordination, concentration, power and an understanding of how individual techniques work together.
Practical Self-Defence
Students learn awareness, distance management, escapes, joint locks, throws, takedowns and controlled grappling. Training emphasizes sound judgment, personal safety and using physical skills responsibly.
Weapons Training
Advanced students expand their coordination and understanding of movement through traditional weapons training, including the bo staff and Bong Hyung Il Bu.
Fitness and Conditioning
Tang Soo Do training improves strength, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, agility and mobility. Each class provides purposeful movement while students develop skills that remain valuable throughout life.
Character and Leadership
Respect, perseverance, humility and responsibility are central to our training. Students learn to set goals, respond positively to challenges and carry themselves with confidence at home, at school, at work and throughout the community.
